2002 NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION REVIEW
2002 was an exciting and busy year for the Meadowood Neighborhood Association (MNA). The MNA has been dormant for several years, and it was re-started with only a handful of neighbors. My goal as president was to organize a series of events to bring the neighbors closer together and start a communication between households. I had hoped to have a membership count of 50 households.
Well, we made it to 49! Not only that, we have developed an electronic e-mail crime watch system. Anyone a victim of a crime can contact our Crime Watch Coordinator to immediately notify the other neighbors via e-mail. Three more crime watch signs went up, and we are keeping up with crime in the city on a monthly basis.
Activities in 2002 included an Easter Egg Hunt and Barbecue in the spring. Children of all ages hunted for the elusive ?“golden egg?” and the winner was rewarded with a giant chocolate bunny. The adults and children enjoyed hamburgers, hot dogs, and delicious side dishes prepared by a few of the members. Dwight Manning and myself manned the grills. Everyone had a great time!
In August the MNA participated in ?“National Night Out.?” We had visits by the city?’s Gang Unit hot rod, and the Fire Department sent an engine for the kids (and many adults) to look at. Local businesses donated several prizes for us to give away throughout the night. As a results six new households joined the association.
At the general meetings we had both Mayoral candidates speak to us and take questions one on one. We also learned about fire and personal safety from the city?’s Fire Department and Police Department. Plus, a representative from the city?’s Code Enforcement Department took time out to explain some of the common ordinances we should all be aware of.
I hope 2003 is even better than last year. Already, the board of directors have met to discuss what events to be planning for. This year we hope to learn more about the 190 highway and Mall projects, and the new Water Park being built nearby. We plan to continue our Easter Egg Hunt & Barbecue and the National Night Out.
