The wildfires in Florida and Georgia plus the recent fire at the Jacksonville Humane Society have prompted some questions about what will happen in the event of a fire at Merrill Pines.
When the fire alarm is activated, the fire department is dispatched. The security company then notifies May Management of the alarm with the corresponding building numbers.
If there is a fire, evacuate your unit immediately. Once you are out of the building, do not go back inside until the fire department declares it safe.
May Management will need to be notified of any damage. Do not assume that May already knows about all of the damage ?– call to report any repairs needed for the exterior/structure of your unit.
May Management will contact the insurance agent. Then the agent will make a claim to the insurance company and will work with May to obtain an appraisal.
The Association?’s insurance covers the repair/rebuild to the exterior of all the buildings. It is the responsibility of the individual, unit owners and/or renters to replace the inside finishes and contents.
If a unit is deemed uninhabitable, efforts will be made to assist the owner in securing their belongings. It will be the owner?’s responsibility to find alternate accommodations during the rebuild process.
Construction plans will be made available to any owner upon request and with community notices.
Special committees will also be formed in order to oversee and manage the restoration projects for the Association. Contact either May or the Board within the week of a disaster if you are interested in volunteering.
