September 27, Tuesday. Center City Streetcar Public Meeting
6:30 PM Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center. 600 East Fourth Street. Room 267. The proposed Center City Streetcar will include Central Avenue adjacent to our neighborhood. This meeting will unveil the recommended system plan for this corridor!

This meeting is being convened by the developers and City-County planning staff.

Plan to attend BOTH of these two very important meetings to help ensure that development of the properties at the intersection of Central and Briar Creek Roads will add value to the neighborhood for years to come.

October 6, Thursday. Southeast Corridor Transportation Project Public Meeting
7 – 9 pm Charlotte Merchandise Mart
Preliminary concept plans for the SE Corridor transit stations will be presented. This includes the Briar Creek Road station. Residents and business owners will be encouraged to give input on: land use pattern around stations, station access, connectivity in station areas.

October 8, Saturday. MONA day
Group yard sale
8-Noon Pay $5 to participate, dust off your treasures, get organized, and set up in your own yard for the Merry Oaks Neighborhood Yard Sale. MONA will advertise with signs, place the newspaper ad and give you your permit by October 7. Group yard sales bring in many more buyers!

Block party
6:00 pm Arnold Drive between Merry Oaks & Farmington
Bring a chair or blanket to sit on. The street will be closed so bikes, skateboards and roller blades are encouraged. Hamburgers, hotdogs & drinks will be provided. Bring a side dish to share. Please volunteer to help with set-up or clean-up.

October 12, Wednesday. Candidates’ Forum for at-large City Council candidates. Co-sponsored by MONA.
7 pm, Amity Presbyterian Church, Johnston Hall. (Between Albemarle Road and Independence Blvd. on Sharon Amity)

October 20 Thursday. MONA General meeting.
7-9 Merry Oaks Elementary School.

October 23 Sunday. Creek Walk
1-5 pm Masonic Drive at Central Avenue (bridge over Briar Creek). Join the Merry Oaks Neighborhood award-winning creek stewardship effort. See the creek and greenway, observe flora and fauna, clean the creek. If we’re lucky the greenway bridge will be installed by then!

Katrina-displaced family in Merry Oaks
The family who was displaced by Hurricane Katrina and is living in our neighborhood has settled in. Thank you to everyone who brought meals to them during their first week. The children are in school and the family has everything they need. They do plan to return to Louisiana as soon as possible. Please continue to be generous with your resources to all relief efforts
