I'm a member of the Messick-Buntyn Neighborhood Association. A number
of our members have decided to object the the planned closing of five
library branches in the city this summer.
Books, magazines, internet access for low-income kids, and quiet places
to study are all absolute necessities in a city in which 50% of public
school students fail to complete high school. These branches, once
closed, will never be replaced.
If you agree, please call, write, e-mail, or visit city council members.
Upon request, we will be happy to provide: (1) a list of city council
members with contact information, (2) a copy of my letter to a council
member, (3) a petition for adults, (4) a petition for children, (5) a
short notice for use with a petition posted on a bulletin board, and/or
(6) a copy of the city's $600,000 study regarding the branch closings.
Thank you for considering this issue.
