KWANZAA - A Time for Reflections and RENEW

Friday, December 26, 2003

''Kwanzaa'' is a principle focused gift that can be given to you, your family, friend, significant other and/or an associate.

BACKGROUND
KWANZAA was a ''gift'' given in the late 1960's by DR. MAULANA KARENGA.

Dr. Karenga created and celebrated the first Kwanzaa in 1966. He is the Chair of Black Studies at the University of California - Long Beach.

The first celebration was in Los Angeles, California.

Kwanzaa is a Swahili term that means ''first fruits''.

SEVEN DAYS
There are seven days of atonement.

Not only a forgiveness or mending, it is starting fresh by recognizing blessings, random acts of kindness and your personal growth the year through. IT IS A TIME FOR FAMILY - in your home, in your neighborhood, in the world.

More importantly, how you will manifest those gifts to a higher level of growth through your giving. Giving equals receiving.

Each day of Kwanzaa, one of the seven principles are discussed and celebrated.

There are seven candles lite during this time (3 green, 3 red and one black, in the middle).

Lighting of a candle, the intake of food, beverage, gifts to children or others with a relevant meaning, are also part of the celebration.

.......December 27 - KUJICHAGULIA
.......December 28 - UJIMA
