Mission Hills Rd - A Great Place to Call Home

Greetings,

     We are the Johnson Family.  In the fall of 2006, our family relocated here from the east coast.  From the first week here in Kansas, we all knew that Topeka would be the type of community that we would love to call home.  Home, that's a special term used when we think of a secure comfort zone where we house our loved ones.  It's a word we use for letting our family know its the "safe" place to be.

     One of the favorite activities that our family likes to do (when we can find time) is jog around the neighborhood.  Sometimes, that consists of running up and down each street finger and finishing the loop.  As we pass each house, I wonder who each of you are and if you have the same concerns regarding the safety of our community.

     During the weekend of March 2/3, our gas was stolen from the tank of our old gray truck.  This was after we filled the tank full and returned home from Dillons and parked it on the side of the street.  So on March 6 after pondering this situation, I decided to put my frustration down on a large piece of cardboard.  Yes, that was me, the crazy lady standing near the corner of 21st and Mission Hills Road, holding a large piece of cardboard. "Warning, Gas Thieves In Our Neighborhood...They Got Us!"  Many of you stopped and asked questions.  I learned that a neighbor's house on the corner of 21st/Mission Hills Road was the target of "hate graffiti".  I also was moved to hear that a wonderful group of people in this neighborhood personally removed it.

     I feel it's time for all of us to follow that kind gesture offered to one neighbor and put that effort into promoting a safer neighborhood.  Our mission is to ensure that the Mission Hills Road Neighborhood is a healthy place to call home.

     Our goal is to organize a future block "pot luck" picnic and quarterly neighborhood watch meetings.  Through these efforts, I'm hoping that we can all get acquainted with all of those that live in our cozy neighborhood and be great neighbors, like the one's that I mentioned above.
