7:oo PM – Introductions
7:03 PM – SEUL update – Afifa Ahmed-Shafi
7:06 PM – Discussion on Cell Tower near Vestal Elementary- concerns were
expressed over the possible health risks, property values, and aesthetic look of the neighborhood. Some proposed asking the company for answers to their concerns and some thought a resolution of opposition was unnecessary.
7:21 PM - Motion to oppose cell tower near Vestal Elementary
– moved – 2nded 8- for 1- against 1-abstention – Passed
7:27 PM – Update of events and dates of meetings were given by the
president including Montavilla Business Ass. and 82nd Business Ass. She also explained the Ave of Roses idea of the 82nd Business Ass., which is using a federal “weed and seed” grant to fight crime on 82nd avenue.
7:46 PM – Somali Woman’s Association – Lub Abduhl explained the goals
of their association which included helping women adjust to a life more involved with the community. This included citizenship classes, driving instruction, and various children’s activities. She also expressed the desire of many children to have more after school activities.
8:00 PM – METRO Presentation – Robert Liberty Dis. #6 – explained how
Metro had been spending most of its bond money to acquire more park and green spaces. With property values quickly rising, it was thought to be the most cost-effective course of action. Association members expressed concerns over too much purchasing being done at the expense of upkeep and fee-based accessibility. Rep. Liberty assured citizens that these issues would be expressed to the METRO board.
