Craig Airport Update Information
Hello, everyone---At our last Homeowners Assoc. meeting I told you about the lawsuit against the city brought by two fixed-base operators at Craig Field. They are suing because in the city's comprehensive plan there is a section that prevents the Jacksonville Aviation Authority from extending the runway at Craig Field. As you know the Greater Arlington Civic Council formed a subcommittee named Craig Community Covenant to fight the JAA's attempt to overturn the comp plan. Just before the city council was going to vote on the JAA amendment to the comp plan, JAA withdrew their amendment because CCC successfully convinced most of the city council members to vote against the amendment.
Now we are in another fight because of this lawsuit. We don't expect the city to put up much of a defense against this lawsuit because the mayor always wanted a runway extension. CCC re-hired attorney Barry Bobek to petition the court for intervener status. GACC pres. Lad Hawkins notified us today that in the June first court hearing, the judge denied intervener status but granted amicus status. Lad said "We will be included in all actions and will be able to prepare our own briefs and review all city work. Barry will be in the loop. We also could be awarded Intervener status at a later date if the judge is convinced that it is warranted."
Craig Community Covenant is now doing more fund-raising to be able to pay the attorney, Barry Bobek, who helped us win the first round against JAA a couple of years ago. We have about three weeks to pay him the balance of his fee.
Donations of any amount will be greatly appreciated. Checks should be made out to Craig Community Covenant and mailed to:
