Treasurer Report:
Jim Kresnik reported that the Association has generated $450.00 in donations from Board Members for start up funds. A checking account has been opened. Jim also reported on the history of naming Morton Park. Through research at the offices of the Omaha World Herald, the park was named after George W Morton. He was considered to be one of Omaha?’s first real estate moguls. Mr. Morton was an Omaha City Planner who promoted recreation for families by designing and building some of the city?’s earliest parks. The Morton family owned the land and donated it to the city. The park is named after the Morton family.

Omaha Police Southeast Precinct Report:
Cap Mark Martinez is excited to work with our Neighborhood Association. He is a. 23 year veteran of the Omaha Police Department. Mark learned early in his career to create partnerships with community groups for combating crime. The Southeast Precinct has . Crime Prevention Specialist. Ofelia Roblas. (sp?) will be assigned to work with our group. Mark likes to encourage his officers to get out of their cruisers and talk to neighbors in their districts.
2006 Crime Statistics. SE Precinct: Decrease by 10% for Property Crime Issues. Gang Crime a Precinct priority. Gang Unit has established a satellite office in the precinct. Capt Martinez supports Awareness by assigning a specific officer to each district. Officers are encouraged to get out and meet the residents and businesses in their assigned districts.

Dr Russell L Smith. Omaha Neighborhood Scan:
The program is funded through City of Omaha. It assists in monitoring and addressing housing and housing code issues in the neighborhoods. City resources are stretched so Neighborhood Associations initiate a proactive approach. to address property issues on their own time. Equip us to assist with the use of pocket pcs, digital cameras and training. Typical. Illegally parked cars /missing license plates/paint issues/pride of ownership, lots of detached garages in need of repair.
Morton Park Neighborhood Census Data: 1 out 5 disabled residents. 30% soc security income. 23 percent live alone, pretty high percent of non traditional family households. The scan has been completed in 10 neighborhoods in Omaha. Look at properties/ high home ownership rate. Houses for Sale. Foreclosed Property, Noise Ordinance, City Council. Property zoning. 8 volunteers needed to assist. Suggest tackle a fourth of it. 6 hours for 8 people. Generate letters to communicate. 25% repairs of major violations. 6000 scanned/1000 repaired.

Ron Abdouch added that the new sewer fees to pay for a 25 million dollar study for sewer separation. The project impacts anybody connected to the sewer. Projected cost is 550 million to 3 billion dollar project starting in 2009. 15 year project.
