Mountain Vista HOA

Landscape and Garden Tips

May 27, 2007

Did you know that our HOA states that a Mtn. Vista resident must have their landscaping done within 12 months of your certificate of occupancy or a fine may be imposed to you? Your plan should be submitted to the Architectural Review Committee. Please refer to your HOA policy for guidelines on landscaping your yard. Here are some important tips for planning your landscape.

*Decide the theme of your landscape. It should work within the theme of your house and the neighborhood.
*Put bluegrass turf in high-activity areas. Consider mulches, hard surfaces and low-water alternative landscapes in side yards and non-activity areas.
*Consider paving, gravel areas, mulch beds, etc. for walkways, entry areas and seating areas.
*Native rock walls, boulders and low-mass shrub plantings are effective ways to moderate and stabilize slopes.
*Xeriscape your yard wherever possible to conserve water. Mulching your grass instead of bagging it after cutting can cut down on water use.
*Take your plot plan to your local garden center and ask for one of their designers to assist you in your landscape.
The above can certainly present a challenge with our current water restrictions. However, with a little help and a well planned out yard, you can make your landscape the envy of the neighborhood.
