This was via an email from Pat Zacks

Hello everyone......This is just a little update to bring you up to speed on what is happening with Weeden Manor.

Since my original 'cry for help' regarding Weeden Manor several weeks ago, we invited Pawtucket residents to a small meeting at Quality Hill resident Joe Asermely's house to share some info and begin a discussion regarding preservation issues in Pawtucket, and the more pressing issue of the closing of Weeden Manor and the future of the building.   A week later, a small group of people were invited to a second meeting, which included City Councilor John Barry, City Planning & Redevelopment Director, Mike Cassidy, several members of Preservation Society of Pawtucket and a few key members from the community familiar with historic preservation laws.  What came out of that meeting was the request from the group that Councilor John Barry bring to the full council the request to lengthen the current DDB (demolition delay bylaw) from 90 days to 6 months.  We are hopeful that this will be the start of some good dialogue in the community, with a pro-active approach to preserving and reusing some of our historic properties.

Since my original 'letter to the editor', I have received several comments from Pawtucket residents wanting to know "what's happening with Weeden Manor???!!".    Well - yesterday I received a phone call from the realtor of Weeden Manor, Greg Micallef asking me to forward this info to everyone I know, with the hopes that "we can find a good buyer and use for this property".

Hi Big Allan.....I was contacted by the real estate agent last week and he asked that I forward the listing for Weeden Manor to anyone and everyone, with the hopes that a suitable buyer could be found.  This propety is currently listed with the Olympus Group.  They are looking for non-profits, offices or someone wishing to turn it back into a single family home.   The description of the property sounds beautiful.  Let's continue to keep our eyes on this.  On another note,  in my search of Elizabeth Higginson Weeden, my curiosity brought me to the Oak Grove Cemetary where she and her family are buried.  This was my first time visiting this cemetary, and I was quite shocked to see how so many turn of the century tombstones are broken, split in half and scattered on the property.  On one end it looks like people are building their own gravesites, and the other is free and easy access to the City's public works garage.   Again, following Ms. Weeden's desire to help those (women) that had difficulty helping themselves - and knowing a little of her history - it was disturbing to see her final resting place, surrounded in this.
