  • Respect-O-Meter: Valued Neighbor

I have been using the city's code & zoning online system to request that someone come and take a look at the house next door.  For several months now, there have been a large group of teen/young adult squatters living in this house.  The house went into foreclosure, and the owners moved out.

The teens continued to live there with no electricty and no running water, going to the neighbors homes to get water in 5 gallon jugs so they can flush their toilets and wash,  I guess.

I have complained several times and have been told that every time an inspector goes out there "no one is home" and "we can't prove it".   I live next door.....trust me they are there.  The laundry hangs off the back porch.  They come and use my hose to fill up their water jugs. I see them every day.

Well, this weekend they finally broke into a neighbor's house.  They stole several items, including a firearm.   This was witnessed,  as to who the people are and where they came from.  WHY did this have to wait until they commited a crime to get someone out here???

A big thank you to BSO for finally taking care of this.....a big thanks for nothing to the City of Oakland Park.
