Whos got their hand on the tiller?
Whos got their hand on the wheel?
Friends,
I wrote a song about Bush and don??™t know what to do with it, other than let it go. I liked it so much I went right into the studio and recorded it, using some great musicians, and have put it on a web page, where it can be downloaded for free as an mp3 file http://www.awrenchinthecogs.com/ . Derek Burrows, musician, storyteller, Renaissance man, and friend has set up the web page, and we??™re beginning work on a video.
The song is copyrighted and registered with BMI but I??™m more concerned about spreading it around than collecting money from downloads. The warm feeling of contributing to the demise of our present oligarch doesn??™t pay the college tuitions but it??™s probably enough.
As most of you know, most of my work is with children and families, and the song doesn??™t much fit with what I do. Still, I hope it would have a life. So, here??™s what I??™m asking of you.
1) Go to the web page and listen to it, please.
2) If you can??™t hear it, let me know and we??™ll send you a CD of it.
3) If you??™re affiliated with some radio station that would play it, please burn a disc and play it. Again, if you need a CD, let me know, and we??™ll get you one muy pronto.
4) If you like it, e-mail the web page to others and tell them to listen.
5) If you like it enough to sing it, please do ??“ if you want chords, etc, let me know.
6) If you are a producer or know someone that might be interested in recording it, go for it. I??™ll give rights. Usual rates apply. Dixie Chicks, Bruce Springsteen, Wayne Newton, anyone, anyone?
7) Any other hot ideas about spreading the word (okay, words and music) would be appreciated.
Related to #7, I am wondering how we might provide some forum for people who are doing political art ??“ maybe this web page
If I didn??™t think the song was good, or the times weren??™t desperate, I wouldn??™t do this, but I do and I do. I??™m hoping you??™ll give a listen and let me know what you think.
Peace,
Bill Harley
