Kickng off the 2011 Pawtucket Arts Festival, the Gala event on September 9th promises to be the biggest and best ever with over 3000 anticipated guests. The central focus of the event is the “Taste of Pawtucket” where for a flat entry fee (just $10) guests can sample specialties from over 50 Pawtucket area restaurants, markets and vendors. Its 2 hours of all-you-can-eat fun featuring numerous ethnic specialties, local favorites and lots of surprises too. Beverages are purchased ala carte and include various soft drinks, specialty beverages, beer and wine.

In addition to the food the Gala boasts non-stop entertainment covering all areas of the arts including music, dance, fine arts, opera, theatre and so much more. Expect to see vignette performances and demonstrations from top names such as Chef Frank Terranova, Coleen Cavanaugh with The Festival Ballet Providence, performances by Pawtucket’s own Mixed Magic Theatre, and Street painting by Alfonso Acevedo. There are also plenty of activities for the kids.

Later in the evening stay for musical performances from local favorite Slippery Sneakers followed by the nationally popular headliner, Rosie Ledet and the Zydeco Playboys. Brimming with coy sensuality, Rosie's music is fresh and daring, while still retaining its links to its bayou Creole heritage.

The Gala is a rain or shine event with most food and entertainment under tents so mark your calendar and don’t miss it!

So put all of Sept on your calendar for Pawtucket

“If this is the arena rock of the future, send me a ticket.” — Pitchfork

“A triumphant, heavily riffed, primarily instrumental epic, whiplashing through six minutes of smiling prog jams, and as many tempos as passages, before settling into one last minute of uplifting chants.” — Stereogum

“Life-affirming prog guitar anthems.” – Seattle Stranger

Ed Schrader's Music Beat
Ed preformed solo for 3 years traveling the country with his voice and a drum. He was asked to play a rave in Baltimore. Looking to expand his performance, he asked Devlin to join him onstage with his bass. Since then the two have been making rock music of the finest variety, with their sights on the world.
Tig & Bean
Tig & Bean is an up-and-coming Providence, RI based trio gaining local interest with their described Dirty/ Pretty Folk Blues sound. Their smooth harmonies and haunting melodies will leave you wanting more. Tig & Bean features Lily "tig" Costner , Eric "&" D., and Caroline "bean" Hecht. The group officially formed at the start of 2011 when Costner was added to the already well established mix between Hecht and D. This union continues to generate new interest from their local shows, including appearances at recent Providence and Boston Tom Waits Benefit Tribute concerts, the Narrows in Fall River, MA and The Met in Pawtucket, RI opening for the 'Mericans. With their debut album coming out early this fall, Tig & Bean is a band you'll want to keep both eyes and both ears on.

Double Decker Dance Band
The Double Decker Dance Band plays afro-pop, reggae, and other dance music. It's led by Liberian-born songwriter, singer, guitarist, and keyboard player Joseph Paye and also includes drummer Matt McLaren, guitarist Chris Monti, bassist Scott Reber, keyboardist Jacob Haller, percussionist Elvys Ortiz, and singer Michelle Brown. They've backed up Sierra Leone sensation Steady Bongo and have opened for the Sierra Leone Refugee All-Stars.
The ‘Mericans’
“Singer-songwriter Chris Daltry of Providence has been making darkly majestic, slowcore-tinged music since the early ’90s, when he led his first band Purple Ivy Shadows, down lantern-lit paths of dream-pop wonder and soft psych parades that marched (and, sadly, vanished) into the mists of a new millennium. Thankfully, for those of us who like a little moodiness mixed with our melodies (think Pernice Brothers, Grandaddy, Varnaline) and guitars that tend to shimmer rather than shred, Daltry’s post-Purple endeavor picks up the baton the Shadows dropped somewhere around 2001.
