The Community Open House, which will be held on April 27 from 6 - 8 p.m., has been moved from the Rendezvous Center, Superstition Ballroom South, to the Main Lobby of the Mesa Arts Center, 1 E. Main Street. At the Open House, the public will have the opportunity to interact with the candidates in an informal setting and provide written comments to the City about the candidates. The candidates are:

-- John L. Buchanan, Assistant Phoenix Police Chief
-- Eric W. Buske, Deputy Omaha, Nebraska Police Chief
--Gregory T. Fowler, Interim Mesa Police Chief
--Terrance William Gainer, Retired U.S. Capitol Police Chief
--George Gascon, Assistant Los Angeles Police Chief

Due to a prior commitment, Mr. Gascon will not be able to attend the Open House. A community panel will interview the candidates on April 28. After those interviews, City Manager Chris Brady will select finalists and make a recommendation about the individual to fill the Police Chief position to the Mayor and City Council. The Police Chief is appointed by the City Manager with the approval of the City Council.

Former Police Chief Dennis Donna retired in December 2005 and Gregory T. Fowler has been serving as Interim Police Chief since that time.
