Did you know that Gateway Battered Women's Shelter is the only shelter specifically serving victims of family violence in Arapahoe County? The number of reported domestic violence cases in Arapahoe County has steadily increased since 1990. In 1998, Arapahoe County reported over 4,600 cases of domestic violence that touched families of all races, religions and economic lifestyles.
Gateway's Residential Program provides confidential, emergency housing to women and their children whose lives are in danger as a result of domestic violence. Gateway also offers a non-resident program that provides counseling and other support services to victims of domestic violence who do not require emergency shelter. Their education program offers films, brochures and a speaker's bureau to increase public awareness of domestic violence and the alternatives.
