The governing board of the Portland Public School (PPS) District is preparing to set new boundaries for K-8 schools in the Northeast area of Portland that would affect the Alameda, Beaumont, Sabin, and surrounding schools. Their decision on this is about to be made post haste without allowing for adequate input from or involvement by the families and schools that are to be affected. In addition, the board is not taking into account the 20010 Senses to be released on April 01 of 2011, which we were all directed by the federal government to submit. The overwhelming position of the community members in this area believe strongly that they and their concerns are being left out of that process that will have far reaching impacts on them and their children.
Last night, at the Alameda Community association meeting, it was the unanimous decision of the attendees, that the PPS should postpone their decision until the U.S. Senses data becomes available, and allow the community residents and schools that are to be affected, to participate in that process by voicing their ideas, suggestion, opinions, and oppositions in regards to the re-setting of the current boundaries in the said area. It was further suggested that any decision on this matter be postponed until after the 15 th of April, 2011. |
