The City of Tempe supports green building design. We have encouraged LEED Certification projects, solar panels in single family residential, and per your request; Wind Mills are allowed in Single Family Districts by right. A use permit would be required if its exceed 35' in height.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

yeah, 100 mph provides lots of kw!

recent article in az repub, plus scottsdale gren bldg seminar, monthly thursday nights, has cost of 1.5 kw wind turbine at about $3000 or so after rebates, etc. most of our houses run about 2.5 kw, but often 1.5 kw will be enough to power everything. cost payback on wind turbines is much sooner than photovoltaic cells on the roof, etc.

suggest anyone interested in getting off the power grid look into this resource.
