North Creek Village

how safe is the neighborhood?

Posted in: N Creek Village

Has there been any problem with theft in this neighborhood before? How safe is it? I've always had the impression that the North side has always been the safest neighberhood there is in KC. Over the weekend, someone stole all of the appliances (stove, microwave and dishwasher) at the house we were looking to buy. A few weeks before that somebody took the sump pump, which i thought was very peculiar. I don't mean to cause any alarm throughout the neighborhood but i'd like to have some assurance that i'm buying a dream home, not a nightmare. I would appreciate your honest feedback.

Which house was that?  I live on Shannon, and there have been a couple issues, but I feel very safe.  Any neighborhood is going to have some things pop up, I suppose.  On my street at least (I don't know about the others) I know most of my neighbors and we all kind off keep an eye out.  We had some "traffic" problems with the apartments in Farrellview.  Who knows what exactly was going on, but people were parking and walking over.  The neighbors all filled each other in and we contacted the Farrelview police and the problem is almost gone.  To me, the response to those problems is more important than whether the problem happens.  Any time a vacant house sits for a long time people are going to break into it, but I'm sorry to hear that you lost your appliances.  Are they being replaced?  Hope you're still considering the neighborhood in spite of all that!

Thanks for the reassurance. I'm not worried about the appliances since the seller will be replacing it. Just worried about being a target in the future after we move in. But still considering moving in after the fact.

An elderly couple on our street were carjacked as they returned home from the grocery store on a Friday last summer.  There was an unfamiliar car parked on the street with two black guys sitting in it.  When the old couple got out of their car to unload groceries, the black guys walked across the street brandishing handguns and demanded their car keys.  The wife didn't have them, so these guys entered their house and pointed the gun at her husband (sitting in his recliner in the living room) and demanded the car keys.  Of course, he handed them over.  The carjackers took the car.  Police later found the car trashed somewhere in Kansas and arrested one of the men.  I don't know if they ever caught the other one.

There have been numerous instances of people from Ferrelview vandalizing the clubhouse and fitness center and breaking into the swimming pool.  With no one on the premises it's an open invitation for this kind of thing to happen.  There is a rumour that Ferrelview wants to annex North Creek.  Let's hope this doesn't happen.  It has to be put to a vote and I, for one, hope to God it gets voted down, if this is true.  We don't need vandals trashing our clubhouse and pool and who knows what else.
