Construction Noise Ordinance Desperately Needed

Hand that Rocks Cradle must Chase Cradle Across the Room

Vibration while large land compactors tremor the ground have caused neighboring properties more than inconveniences. Some have had to block refrigerator and furniture in place to keep it from shaking across the room. China and valuable have been packed for
months as construction continues. Continuous headaches are endured and some suffer motion sickness from the tremoring. Televisions have fallen from their stands as well as other breakage. Babies cannot nap because intermittent tremoring and noise keep cribs and inhabitants agitated. One mother has had to take her little one on afternoon car trips so a nap can be taken. Those who are ill or need a nap have to wait to the weekend. Sleep deprivation is being felt by many. Work hours are guided by the present noise ordinance that is more effective for parties than construction. It permits noise from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. at night.

Elvis Presley awakened to sing, "I'm All Shook Up"

Noise has ensued as early as 5:30 a.m. Construction began February 9th. Nerves are shot and some feel like they live in a bomb shelter. We wouldn't be surprised to hear Elvis sing, "I'm All Shoook Up." It's enough to wake the dead. Reasonable limits need to be defined so residents can utilize their properties and homes and actualyl rest when they complete their days' work and obtain the sleep they need. There are day sleepers in the areas - who are going without enough sleep - not for a couple weeks but over months. When streets are sewered most areas are only impacted for a few weeks at best.

Comments being solicited to Frame a Reasonable Work Schedule

When development is going to go on more than a month or so, some compromise needs to bring some measure of peace to the community. We too have jobs and lives that need protection. Please submit ideas for days, hours, respite times for naps, children and other early risers who need early bedtimes.

We will be lobbying the city council over the summer to address a construction ordinance.
