Another discussion string titled ''Neighborhood Yards'' touched on the subject of boats in yards and I'm curious to find out how many Hickory Hills homeowners recently received letters from the management company regarding the boat in your yard.
I received one today, but I know of several other boats that are stored in yards or driveways around the neighborhood, so I'm wondering if this is a neighborhood wide effort or if I'm being singled out for some reason.
While I understand that it's an HOA covenant, I have a hard time drawing a line between inoperative cars and 4-5 cars in driveways, and having a boat parked beside your house, as the author of ''I Agree, too'' so eloquently did.
I agree with you on the point of inop vehicles, 4-5 vehicles, and the other response to do with appliances, but I personally don't think a boat parked in a driveway or beside a house looks ''TRASHY''. Call me biased for owning a boat that's usually beside my house, but I think you're comparing apples to oranges.
Furthermore, and I'll have to verify this with the complete HOA by-laws document I have somewhere, but the letter I received states ''No truck (other than pick-up trucks), bus, boat, trailer or inoperative vehicle shall be parked on the driveway or any portion of Lot in such a manner as to be visible from the street.'' If I'm reading this correctly I'm allowed to park my pick-up truck on the side of my house. I have a pretty rough looking truck that I'm sure would raise more eyebrows than my well kept bass boat, but I'm allowed to store it in my yard? Maybe there's another restriction prohibiting that elsewhere in the by-laws.
Anyway, I'm sorry my boat has offended so many of my anonymous neighbors, I'll go ahead and move it out of sight from the road tonight. I'll be out of town for during the Board meeting otherwise I'd be there, I'm sure it will be eventful.
