People who love the outdoors have been using this motto for many, many years. "In nature, take only memories and leave only footprints."
What does that mean?
Take only memories means that we try not to disturb the plants and animals we enjoy, so that they will be around for many more generations to enjoy.
We don't pick the flowers, stomp the insects or create a commotion that disturbs the animals or other human guests.
Leave only footprints means that the next visitors who come to this special place will find it just as we did; peaceful, clean and serene. For example, we never, ever litter.
So how do we remember our special time at Salado Creek natural areas?
We do it by using words and pictures. Use a camera to record still or video images. Use a hand lens and your imagination to draw a picture of some of your favorite things. Use your hands to create a picture frame. Write an essay describing the sights, sounds and smells of this magical wild place.
Remember these times forever! Never forget this special treasure.
