Fast Facts: Our Biological Address

Salado Creek is about 40 miles long.

The Salado basin includes about 220 square miles of territory.

The Salado Creek flows through City Council Districts 2, 3, 8, 9 and 10.

How can you learn which Council District you live in? Call 311! Tell them your home address and they will tell you who represents your district.

The Salado begins in northern Bexar County around Fair Oaks Ranch.

The northern Salado is in the Edwards Plateau, the beginning of the Texas Hill Country.

The middle Salado is in the Blackland Prairie.

The southern Salado is the start of the thorny South Texas Brush Country.

An incredible and tragic flood in October, 1998 killed people and damaged property.

To keep people safe from future floods, Salado Creek must be well managed so that floodwaters can flow downstream efficiently.

Best management practices mean people and animals can have safety and fun. BOTH are equally important!

The City of San Antonio is spending about $30 million dollars to acquire and develop linear parks along Salado and Leon Creeks.

Hike and Bike Trails will be built along these linear greenspaces.

There are already about 30 parks or recreation places along Salado Creek.

There are about 30 schools within one mile of Salado Creek. What a terrific outdoor learning laboratory for students!
