Deep in the wilds of North Central Bexar County, the first graders thought they might find kangaroos or buffalo on the trail. They didn't find those wild animals, but they did discover a great big adventure!
Students from Virginia A. Myers Elementary were excited to explore Eisenhower City Park on Friday, November 30, 2001.
The weather was not too hot and not too cold. It was just right for the students, who had been studying hiking and camping.
With a volunteer trail guide and enthusiastic grown up helpers (some Moms and Dads) the first graders did a wonderful job of observing and recording their finds on the trail.
The students saw black vultures soaring above park. They heard birds chirping in the trees. They smelled the closeness of the woods. They sang and laughed and enjoyed a picnic too.
Some brave students hiked all the way to the top of the park and climbed a very cool observation tower, where they saw amazing sights! Some students said they would like to draw pictures of some of the interesting things they saw.
The trail guide took careful notes about the students observations so that back at school the children could write fantastic stories about their wonderful day on the trail.
