The Taylor Avenue project by Columbus Urban Growth asked for support to change previous plans for two doubles, with one side owner occupied, to condominiums. With NEAC support, persons moving into the units at 80% area median income will qualify for City of Columbus assistance. NEAC supported the change.
NEAC also supported another change to the Taylor Avenue Homes plans. The multi-family units at the corned of Emerald and Maryland were proposed to be completely renovated. At this time, Urban Growth cannot finance this project. If Urban Growth continues ownership the buildings will be left as they are and renovate in 5 or more years. Urban Growth cannot afford this and it is an eyesore. NEAC supported the idea to allow Community Housing Network apply for tax credits, which can only be used on this site, to renovate and manage the properties.
Boyce Stafford, Office of the Mayor attended NEAC to speak about the King-Lincoln project. As of now, a redevelopment corporation is being formed, with a Board of Directors, to follow through with the King-Lincoln District Plan. Appointments to the Board are being made by clergy, Long Street Business Association, Mayor Michael Coleman and Columbus City Council. Suggestions are being taken.
