At the neighborhood watch program meeting on June 4, Sgt. Scott  Kadien of the Canandaigua Police Department suggested that the best creime deterrents are lighting (such as motion detecting flood lights), signs, barking dogs, and "nosy neighbors".   Most of the random crimes in Canandaigua are "soft targets", such as unlocked doors.
