An email was sent Dec 4 by the CyberWatch email system, directing the reader to a web page with this message -

Today the City of Memphis is facing a critical issue which we must address - Crime.

A major cause of Memphis' problem with crime is being experienced across the State of Tennessee.  The hard working patrol officers, investigators, and undercover officers are doing their part to make this community safer.  Unfortunately, the revolving doors of justice, created by a lack of strong legislation against crime, have allowed those individuals who terrorize our citizens, to continue to roam our streets.  The MPD wants to enlist the support of the CyberWatch community and the general public in addressing this issue.  We encourage you to email, write and call the representatives and senators of Tennessee.  To help accomplish this, we have created a webpage that makes it easy for citizens to email the legislature.  I urge you to visit the site at https://kiosk.memphispolice.org/cyberwatch/mpd_legislative_email.htm  and send an email to the Shelby County Delegation, the entire house and senate encouraging them to pass the legislation needed to keep these repeat offenders off our streets.

We cannot fight this battle without your help, so please take a minute to communicate to our leaders, the concerns we have, and pass the link on to anyone and everyone. We need your help so we can get laws passed that make Memphis, Shelby County and the State of Tennessee a safer place.

Sincerely,
Larry A. Godwin

Memphis Police Department
