As funding partners of the New Cut Trolley Hop, the South End Metro Council Members invite you to take a FREE ride on the New Cut Trolley Hop October 20th from 10am to 4pm which will
be the last one for 2012. This date coincides with the Mayors Healthy Hometown Hike at the Jefferson Memorial Forest 10am to 1pm! There will be lots of activities at the top of the forest including hay rides, pumpkin de orating, and various trails to hike for the novice or expert. The autumn leaves should be beautiful on this date!
Enjoy the information booths and Shack in the Back breakfast and lunch items also. We invite you to hop off at our other destination points such as the historic Little Loom House on Kenwood Hill where there will be a remembrance celebration of Lou Tate.
Next stops along the route are the shopping areas of Auburndale Center and New Cut Marketplace where you can shop the stores and eat at one of our local restaurants. The Fairdale Library
with its state of the art architecture and green initiatives offers large screen computers, children and teen areas and lots of little nooks to curl up and read a book. Spend the day learning about our South End treasures and have some healthy activity along the way!

THE NEW CUT CORRIDOR NEIGHBORHOODS
New Cut Road at the Outer Loop was originally Beuta Road which ran from 7th Street to the Stoney
Ford Crossing. In 1860, New Cut Road officially became the name of the road because people kept referring to it as the new road going through the cut.
Today, the 24,000 residents and countless businesses along the corridor find themselves
situated at the southern gateway to Louisville, bookended by 7,000 acres of parkland
and a northbound road leading to other attractions including U of L and Churchill Downs.

52-ft Alpine Tower or take advantage of a canoeing demonstration on Mitchell
Hill Lake. There will be free pumpkins and pumpkin decorating, hay rides and
Shack in the Back BBQ will provide breakfast and lunch items available for

an appetite! Meets at HorThe Healthy Hometown Movement envisions a
community-wide culture where healthy eating and active living are the norm and
fosters an environment that promotes increased physical activity, better
nutrition, healthy public policy and access to needed resources.
The Jefferson Memorial Forest stands as a living, woodland memorial to those Kentucky veterans who have served our nation in time of war. Today, the Jefferson Memorial Forest encompasses approximately 6,191 acres in southwest Jefferson County and portions of northern Bullitt County south of the Gene Snyder Freeway and between I-65 and Dixie Highway. The acreage protected as part of the forest has increased significantly since the preserve’s inception in the 1940s and the forest has undergone a number of important changes during that time

The Jefferson Memorial Forest stands as a living, woodland memorial to those
Kentucky veterans who have served our nation in time of war. Today, the
Jefferson Memorial Forest encompasses approximately 6,218 acres in southwest
Jefferson County and portions of northern Bullitt County south of the Gene
Snyder Freeway and between I-65 and Dixie Highway. Hundreds of acres are being
added to the Forest, thanks to the Mayor's City of Parks initiative.
Plan ahead and prepare: Know the type of terrain and possible weather
conditions you might encounter. Maps to the Forest are available at the Welcome
Center and online. Current weather conditions are available here. Carry water,
snacks, and a small first aid kit.
Let someone know where you are going and when you will return. Remember that the
Forest closes at dusk.
Stay on trails: Walk single file and avoid shortcuts. Walk through mud/puddles
to avoid widening the trail. Pay attention to trail junctures and know where
you are on your map.
Help keep your parks clean and safe: Please dispose of waste properly. Take a
zip locking plastic bag along to carry wrappers, cans, or other garbage to an
appropriate receptacle. Practice "negative trace" by picking up trash
left by others. Report trail or structure damage at the Welcome Center.
Leave nature in nature: Avoid moving rocks, picking plants, and disturbing
cultural/historical artifacts. Take pictures instead; it allows others to enjoy
the same experience you did. Email us your favorite photos, and we may include
them on this page.
Respect wildlife: Do not try to attract or approach wildlife. Never feed
animals human food as this disrupts their natural food cycle. Keep pets on a
leash. Guidebooks to common animals and plants of the Forest are available in
the Welcome Center. You can also download a guide to animal tracks and winter
tree identification or a checklist of wildflowers, plants, and trees of
Mitchell Hill Lake.
Be considerate of other visitors: Keep voices/noises from getting intrusively
loud. Obey any posted trail rules including rights of way.
