The bi-monthly Leadership Group for Area 1 met February 17, at Jefferson Elementary School. The meeting date was changed from February 10 due to the Mayoral Forum that was scheduled for the same date at the Hart Senior Center.
The proposed parking garage to be located at 14th & H Streets was discussed. The garage would provide 1,095 parking spaces and would also include 25,000 square feet of ground floor retail/office space. This proposal is still in the planning and design stage.


The Neighborhood Response Team priority list was presented and discussed. The corner of C and 25th Streets has been targeted for motorists going at excessive speeds and running stop signs during the evening commute.


On Saturday April 8, there will be an all day work- shop, the 3rd Annual Community Partnership for Safety Forum, at McGeorge School of Law. Assemblyman Darrell Steinberg will speak on Family and School Violence: What Communities Can Do. There will be nine workshop topics including Community Oriented Policing, Building Youth Assets, Neighborhood Traffic Issues, and Funding Opportunities for Neighborhoods. All county residents, business people, and organizations are welcome to attend. The cost is $10.00 and includes lunch and resource material. For more information or to register call (916) 433-4006.


Michael Luken, Economic Development Specialist presented the City of Sacramento Draft Economic Development Strategy. This is the first citywide economic strategy created to provide a framework for establishing the economic development priorities of the city for 2000-2005. It will have far reaching effects for the entire city including commercial and residential neighborhoods. The draft will be presented several times through March of this year at various Leadership Group and business association meetings. It will be presented as an informational item at the City of Sacramento Planning Commission on March 9, 1231 I Street, at 5:30 PM,. The next Leadership Group Area 1 meeting will be held April 6, 6:30 PM at The Boys and Girls Club located at 1117 G Street. City Manager Bob Thomas will speak at this meeting and the Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency will also be presenting on flood control and protection.
