Board of Supervisors Votes on Transitional Living & Community Su

Mar 06, 2000

-- By Susan Moe

On Tuesday, January 11, the County Board of Supervisors voted to let Transitional Living and Community Support remain at the 3001 E Street facility. The vote came as a surprise to the Oversight Committee and to the Sacramento City Council. In a meeting between the County and the Oversight Committee on Friday, January 7, the committee was told the staff report would not be voted on.

Since the vote, the Oversight Committee has again met with the County. A report on the meetings with TLCS was given to the Supervisors, the City Council and the media. It was apparent that TLCS?’ efforts to find a new location were disingenuous.

The Committee is regrouping and redirecting its efforts. The number of members is expanding to include three additional neighbors and two midtown business owners. The current goals are:

1. Ongoing meetings with TLCS to be sure they abide with the Good Neighbor Policy.

2. Negotiate for amenities to enhance the neighborhood.

The map mentioned in the November--December issue of NEPNN is available showing social service facilities in Midtown; however, it is not entirely legible. Also, the only facilities shown are those which are county-run or contracted. It is an incomplete document that doesn?’t reflect the total number of social service facilities in the Central City and Midtown areas.
