Speeding & Speedbumps

Posted in: Woodlands - St Tammany Parish
Looking for input concerning speeding in the Woodlands. Does it seem to be a problem? And if so what can we do about it. I would like to hear your ideas.

speeding

I feel that the avenues you are pursuing are good ones. These include the active pursuit of speed bumps, and continuing to pressure the developer to install speed limit and children at play signs throughout the neighborhood. reminders such as the flyers that have been distributed are also a good idea. To periodically do this I think will help. I live on the first block of Sweet Bay with 2 small children who play outside after school just at rush hour when folks are coming ghome from work, and I can say peple fly down the stret. It is so scary, I make sure I am out there at all times. I already lost one dog to a speeder. ( It was accidental that the dog was out front, but it was a tragedy). The fact that we have no sidewalks makes it even more scary; the kids have to ride or skate in the street. I think we need to keep pressure on the developer until he comes through. If we back off, he will let it slide, I fear. I will do whatever I can to help, and I appreciate very much what you are doing.

sweet bay speedway

sweet bay is a speedway. With the increasing number of children and pets in the area soon a child will be hit by a car or truck. We need to do something. The speed limit in the subdivision is 20 mph. Let us all drive at the limit and then speed bumps won't be needed. If Santa gets hit we will all be in deep rain deer dung.
Sweet Bay Speeding

I, too, live on Sweet Bay Drive. I agree that speeding is definitely a problem. I also have young children and am very concerned for their safety. I do teach them not to get in or cross the street without an adult, but you never know what a small child can do in a split second. That split second could change your life and the lives of the parents FOREVER. The speed limit is 20 MPH. However, when there is a hazard, you need to slow down to accomodate. Would you speed on a street when there is ice on it? Or would you slow down to accomodate for the situation? I also think that it is amazing that the biggest problem is at the front of the subdivision (where everyone comes through). The people in the back of the subdivision do not have to deal with the traffic like we do. I think that it is ridiculous that some people think that putting speed bumps in is a punishment to those in the back of the neighborhood. How hard is it to slow down and take a few more SECONDS to get from the front of the subdivision to your home.
