Newkirk Estates Civic Assn.

Minutes from March 6, 2018

At 7:00 the meeting was called to order by President Ray Schafferman. Ten people were in attendance. Each one signed a paper that is attached to the secretary's copy of the minutes.

Due to recent health concerns, Maryann Spence is unable to fill the Board position. Therefore, by a unanimous show of hands, Dorie Galloway was invited to fill the position, which she accepted.

Ray announced that he made a call to Representative Osienski concerning the pot holes at the entrance way. Mr. Osienski assured Ray that he would pass this information along to Del-Dot. He also said he would keep us informed of any progress.

Mary Beth Coté, the Treasurer, read the Treasury Report. These reports can be seen at any regular meeting and also on line at the web page listed in the header.

A member of our community voiced concern over the cost of his trash pickup and was wondering if we had a neighborhood rate with any specific company. Dorie researched our old minutes and found that an attempt was made in the past and failed. He also brought up concerns about the debris clogged storm drains, particularly the ones by the park. He also voiced concern about the over-growth on the curve on Longview Drive. Ray said he would contact the county to see who was responsible for addressing these issues.

In the early 90's, a law firm was contracted by the then executive board, to assist in the collection of unpaid dues. Ray contacted this law firm, and found that the one remaining partner no longer does this service. However, he did refer us to another firm which Ray has contacted, and will keep us informed of any developments.

At a recent board meeting, some concerns were raised over our current by-laws. These concerns were discussed, and it was decided that some revisions are necessary.  The revisions will be given to all residents prior to the neighborhood vote at the next Newkirk Estates Civic Association meeting.

Toni and her social committee members informed us of a community yard sale date of Saturday, May 5
th with a rain date of May 6th. The committee is meeting on April 7th.  More information to come.

It was moved and seconded to adjourn our meeting at 8:00 pm.

Our next scheduled neighborhood meeting is Tuesday, June 12h, 7:00 pm, Shue-Medill schoolchoral room. All residents are invited and encouraged to attend this meeting.

Respectfully Submitted
