At 7:00 pm the meeting was called to order by President Ray Shafferman. Eleven people were in attendance. Each one signed a paper that is attached to the Secretary’s copy of the minutes.
The minutes from the September meeting were reviewed by the Secretary Andrew Mackiewicz. These minutes were approved as read.
Mary Beth Coté, the Treasurer, read the Treasury Report. These reports can be seen at any regular meeting. Highlights included resident dues and reimbursement for snow removal from the State of Delaware.
The topic of the collection of unpaid dues was discussed. As a reminder, annual dues of $20.00 are to be paid by all homeowners as outlined in the Newkirk Estates Bylaws. These funds go towards services including the upkeep of the neighborhood entrance and snow removal. As discussed in prior meetings, letters have been sent to hometowns that owe back dues.
In late September 2018 it was discovered that the water connection located at the front entrance may have a possible leak as a meter reading by The City of Newark showed a usage of about 11 gallons. Additional reading showed usage of 2 gallons and 1 gallon. Ray has attempted to contact the City of Newark in regards to having the water shut off. As this water line has not been used in over several years, a motion was made to have the water shut off. The motion was approved.
Delmarva Power has been contacted to examine damage to the light pole locate at the front entrance.
Additional topics addressed include U-turns being made at the front entrance and speeding on Phyllis Drive. Ray is attempting to have a police office, as well as our state and county representatives, attend a future meeting to further discuss these topics.
The annual neighborhood yard sale will be held on Saturday May 4th with a rain date of Sunday May 5th. If you are planning on selling specific items please contact Toni James at ltgtyler@verizon.net to have your items placed in the ad. Examples include lightly used power tools, garden equipment, baby clothes, costume jewelry, etc. In an effort to keep the ad within the cost frame, only the first five will be listed.
A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting at 7:50 pm.
Our next scheduled neighborhood meeting is Saturday, June 22nd from 12pm to 2pm at the park located on Phyllis Drive. The rain date for the meeting is Saturday, June 29th from 12pm to 2pm. More information is to come. All residents are invited and encouraged to attend this meeting.
Respectfully submitted,
Andrew Mackiewicz
