Building a Catapult
Something powerful is being built in Nokomis. A 4 stage launching platform is growing up in our midst. So powerful and accurate will it be, that the courageous and dedicated few who step onto it will soar into the new millenium. They will enjoy growth and prosperity while providing pleasure and satisfaction to an entire community.
The catapult I?’m talking about is the framework of physical improvements which business and property owners can make to the shopping districts. This is not some nebulous guessing and hoping. Dozens of dedicated and forward looking individuals have spent years preparing the foundation for this device. Professional consultants have finished the reports necessary to erect the final structure. Expert assistance has been hired to train the major stake holders and facilitate their participation. Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been secured to lighten the financial burden.
Nearly everything is in place for this device to begin operation. Once the final bolts are tightened, the springs and counterweights are fastened and tested, all that will be remaining is for the courageoous to strap on their wings and prepare to fly.
The stages of this catapult consist of
1) identifying the specific goals of the ?”fliers?”, (STRAPPING ON WINGS),
2) securing the city ordinance that makes the process possible, (TAKING A SEAT),
3) committing the financial resources to the jobs, (PAYING THE FARE) and
4) signing the contracts, (PULLING THE TRIGGER).
Who will have the courage and vision to take the flight? We will all benefit!
At the October meeting:
A budget committee to direct the flow of the funds of the association during 2000 will be chosen.
If you want to help plan what the assocition does with it?’s money, volunteer to serve or vote for someone who will do a good job.
Also, we will be choosing representatives for the Economic Development Advisory Committee. Your business will benefit from the $308,000.00 in NRP funds this committee works into the Economic life of Nokomis East.
If you care, Be there.
In September Councilwoman Sandy Colvin Roy presented us an MCDA grant check in the amount of $4888. Thanks to Sandy and the MCDA. These funds will be wisely spent.
It has been pointed out to me that when good things happen, it's important to celebrate them. I agree with that. I hope that we can all see and appreciate with celebration, the terrific work that is being done by dedicated people in our midst. Please take some time whenever you patronize the local businesses to let the owners know that you support improvements to the street scape. Think about celebrating the good things in your own life and I'm sure you will agree that we have much to be happy about.
