A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT:
Dear Residents:
Work is continuing toward our quest for better parks and recreational areas to serve our community. The process is a lengthy one and will not happen in the next few months. However, with perseverance and persistence, we will be successful.
Many of our residents may not be aware that the pool in our community is now the property of Schertz and is being maintained and operated by their Parks and Recreation Department. Due to a recent injury to a child, the diving board was removed, but the city is planning to install a new slide in time for next season. A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Gail Douglas, director of the city?¡?¯s Parks and Recreation Department, for the excellent maintenance of the pool and the new landscaping around it. Here are the hours for the remainder of the season:
Monday ?¨C Wednesday Noon to 7PM
Tuesday ?¨C Closed
Weekends only once school begins
Closed ?¨C After Labor Day
The pool is also available to rent for private parties. The $50/hr. rate includes lifeguards. For
information please contact Sandy Bryant at (210) 658-7477, Ext. 1602.
The City Council continues to address our traffic problems during their workshop sessions. Mayor Baldwin considers our traffic problems to be a priority issue and has charged the City Manager and Councilman Wilenchik to set-up a community meeting with residents of Northcliffe, Scenic Hills, The Fairways at Scenic Hills, Fairhaven, and Whisper Meadow, in an effort to discuss possible alternatives and solutions. Your HOA will be assisting in the coordination of this meeting. If we demonstrate a lack of interest by failing to generate sufficient numbers of concerned citizens, we have sent a message to the City that it doesn?¡?¯t matter to us. Why should they work hard to solve our problems if we do not appear committed? We will be out on the streets with flyers and other ways of spreading the information.
As promised in last month?¡?¯s letter, Part II of our review of City Codes is ?¡?°Junk Vehicles?¡?±.
The City of Schertz defines a ?¡?°junk vehicle?¡?± as: ?¡?°?¡?a motor vehicle which is inoperative and does not have a lawfully affixed unexpired license or motor vehicle safety inspection certificate and that is either wrecked, or dismantled, partially dismantled, or discarded or that remains inoperable for a continuous period of more than forty-five (45) days. The City writes in their brochure on Code
Enforcement: ?¡?°Junk vehicles (or vehicle parts) located on private property, that are visible to the public, must be dealt with in the same manner as those in public places or public rights-of-way. All are detrimental to the safety and welfare of the general public. They reduce the value of private property, invite vandalism, create a fire hazard, and constitute an unattractive nuisance. In addition, they are detrimental to the economic welfare of the city of Schertz because they produce urban blight. In short, junk vehicles (or parts) are a public nuisance.
Again, residents noticing a code violation should contact the Code Enforcement Officer, Mr. Tom Eaton at (210) 658-9627 ext. 1166.
