Articles from the February newsletter

Feb 12, 2006

A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT:

Wednesday, January 11, 2006 was our quarterly community meeting. The attendance was great, and below, for those people who were not able to attend, are some of the issues that were discussed:

?· The Northcliffe Volunteer Fire Station will soon become the property of the City of Schertz. Schertz plans to renovate the building and eventually turn it into a community center. We do not yet have a final date as to when that will happen, but we will keep you informed as the process becomes finalized and details become available. For now, County and State voting will still be done there and City elections will be held at the Community Center on Schertz Parkway.

?· Work has begun on the new road that will go from the upper hill of the Fairways subdivision to the I-35 access road. This should help direct some of the traffic away from Mayfair and Chelsea.

?· A resident?’s request for speed humps along Mayfair has been denied as recent traffic studies have shown that average traffic speed and volume do no meet requirements as outlined in the City ordinance.

?· The City has finalized an agreement with New Braunfels Utilities (NBU). NBU is responsible for electrical support to the first two streets coming into the front entrance. As a first priority following this agreement, the City had a badly needed entry light installed where the old guard shack used to be. The City can now address the issue of the limited number of street lights along Charleston and Columbia.

?· The developer has begun clearing land to build the 241 single family homes on the property along FM 1103 between Chelsea and I-35. The builder will be Armadillo Homes.

We have had better than expected results contacting former members by postcard and reminding them that ?“We Miss Them?”. Within 2 months we received membership dues from 20 families who had not renewed their membership during 2005. Thank you to everyone who responded to our postcards!

I?’d like to talk a little about voting. Did you know that when you move to a new county you must register to vote in your new county? Your old registration becomes invalid. To register in Guadalupe County you can do the following at least 30 days prior to the election date:

?· Go to a local drivers?’ license office (DPS)

?· Go to the Guadalupe County Office on Elbel Road, Schertz

?· Get a form at any U.S. Post Office

?· Go On-Line to ww.sos.state.tx.us/elections/voter

We are a large enough community to make a difference in tax decisions, quality of life issues, and the over-all governing of our city and county. Primary elections are March 7th, and Schertz City elections are May 13th. Don?’t let decisions concerning your family be voted on without your input. The greater the number, the greater the impact!
