A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT:

Thanks to a monumental increase in the number of citizens voting in the recent City election, we have demonstrated that our communities can make a difference! Residents from Northcliffe, Scenic Hills, The Fairways, Fairhaven and Whisper Meadow, accounted for 328 of the 1532 total early votes. That is 251 more votes than we cast for the entire election last year. We comprise 10% of the Schertz population, but cast 20% of the total early vote. We have become a ?“Force?” in determining how our City will be governed. The number of citizens participating in early voting from each community is as follows:

?• Northcliffe ?– 142
?• Fairways ?– 20
?• Fairhaven ?– 6
?• Whisper Meadow - 23

Next month, after I have received the numbers, I will provide you with the total of those voting on Election Day (May 13th).

We would like to extend our congratulations to Mayor Hal Baldwin on his re-election, and to our two new Councilmen David Scagliola and Jim Fowler. Our thanks to the citizens who worked so hard to spread the word and encourage a wonderful voter turn-out! You all made it happen!

SCUCISD:

#1 - $156 M for new schools - Passed
#2 - $51 M for additions and renovations to older schools - Passed
#3 - $10 M for athletic field upgrades - Defeated

City Bonds:

#1 - $6 M for a new library - Passed
#2 - $7.5 M for a recreation center - Passed
#3 - $20 M for road and improvements - Passed
#4 - $4 M for drainage improvement -Passed
#5 - $1.5 M for athletic fields - Defeated

Thank You Community!!

Letter to the Residents:

I believe residents deserve to be heard, and the best way to be heard is to VOTE!
Well, there is no doubt the city heard you this year. Voter turnout in our communities was absolutely phenomenal! To those who supported my campaign: Thank You. To those who supported me and voted: Thanks even more!

I know respect isn't something that can be given, it must be earned. I intend to work hard to earn it (from you and all of the residents of Schertz), and I'm hoping I can count on your continued support in the process.

VANDALISM

The Golf Course and Park were again recently vandalized. Some sociopathic idiots drove their vehicle in circles on the 13th and 17th greens and the 18th fairway. The police know what type of vehicle and the make of the tires from the tread pattern that was left. They are also certain that the culprits live in the area because they knew exactly from which streets they could access the damaged areas. Mr. Todd Causey, one of the course owners stated that the Course is currently in the process of installing security cameras at key locations on the course.

Additionally, the guilty parties drove their vehicle right through the fence around the pool at the Park on Cherry Tree. These are people with no regard for anyone?’s personal property, and your home could be the next target. This type of delinquent behavior needs to be targeted immediately, and citizens of a community are usually the primary safeguard against such idiots. Schertz has been unwilling to provide our community with a decent park, citing the ongoing vandalism. If we, as residents, do not help the police identify people like these, we will never be able to get a decent park for our families and children. If any citizen has information that will help identify the responsible people, please call the non-emergency police number: (210) 658-7477, Ext. 1255. They will NOT ask for your name.

Public hearing

The City of Schertz conducted a public hearing Wednesday, May 24th for the purpose of making recommendations to the City Council regarding changing the zoning of the 5 acres on Country Club
Blvd. by the convenience store to R4, (apartments, multi-family residences, townhouses, condominiums, etc.). The developer plans to build a small community of town homes on that property, but cannot until it is appropriately zoned. A 2nd public hearing will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at Council Chambers, 1400 Schertz Parkway. The Council will act on the recommendations that came out of the May 24th meeting. All citizens are welcome to attend and address the Council prior to their vote to approve or disapprove the re-zoning.

Save Yourself!

Now that summer is here, it is again time to remind all residents that the City of Schertz has an ordinance regarding the excessive growth of grass and weeds in yards. Having weeds and/or grass in excess of 8 inches is a violation. City inspectors will issue a notice directing the resident to correct the violation within 10 days or face a stiff fine.

NEIGHBOR Notes
TEEN DANCES- For students 5th through 8th grade at the Schertz Community Center on Friday, June 2nd & 23rd from 7pm to 11pm. The cost is $5.00 per person. There is pizza and sodas available for a small fee. The dance is sponsored by the Buffalo Valley Lions Club.

STREET SWEEPER- The city sends the street sweepers through Northcliffe on the last Friday of each month. If there are too many cars on a particular street the city says they will NOT clean your street.
