FROM THE PRESIDENT

Tuesday evening, October 10th is our third quarter Community Meeting. We will also be electing the HOA Board Members at that meeting. Anyone wishing to serve on the Board of the HOA please let me know or just come to the meeting. We are now able to hold the meeting again at the old Northcliffe Fire Hall on Morning Drive. The difference is that we must now reserve it and pay a set fee. The City took possession of the building in April and has been completing some necessary work on the electrical and cooling systems. Eventually they plan to renovate the kitchen area and complete other improvements. The building has been renamed ?“Schertz Community Center, North?”. The City also plans to install a plaque on the building honoring the years of dedicated service given by the Northcliffe Volunteer Fire Department.

The Community Center is now available to anyone wishing to rent it. Organizations or private parties wishing to reserve the hall should contact Mrs. Sandy Bryant at (210) 658-7477, Ext. 1602. The new rate schedule is as follows:

This is a convenient location for family reunions, wedding receptions, birthday parties and many other events.

WHAT?’S UP AROUND OUR NEIGHBORHOOD?


FREE LINE DANCE CLASSES:

One of our homeowners has been conducting line dance classes that are sponsored by the Methodist Health Care System. Everyone is welcome to come to the old Northcliffe Fire Hall on Thursday mornings from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Please call Dorothy at (830) 606-0501 for more information.

AARP DRIVER SAFETY PROGRAM

Do you want to update your driving skills and knowledge and get an insurance discount at the same time? If the answer is ?“yes?”, here?’s your opportunity. A Driver Safety Program class will be held on Thursday and Friday, October 5 & 6 from 1:00 to 5:00 at the Scenic Hills Lodge.

Attendance at both sessions is required to obtain a certificate. You do not have to be an AARP member to participate. Class materials are supplied by AARP

Developed by AARP for the 50 and over age group, the course is designed to sharpen our driving skills, prevent accidents and keep older drivers on the road longer and more safely. Since Texas law requires all auto insurance carriers to offer a discount on premiums to qualified graduates of this and similar courses, most people are able to save on their insurance premiums.

Attendance at this course will not remove a traffic citation from a driver?’s record. Cost for the course is $10 per person. If you are interested, call John Connolly at (830) 620-5065 and reserve a place.

SCHERTZ ANNUAL FALL CLEAN UP

Fall Clean Up is scheduled for Oct. 14-29 with collection scheduled between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Drop offs may be made at Bexar Waste?’s temporary collection point, 2221 F.M. 3009 (near Live Oak Rd.) between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

During this time the Public Works Department will pick up household waste, such as lumber and general trash as well as white goods, appliances and furniture. Public Works will also do curbside chipping of brush and tree trimmings Monday-Friday, free of charge. To make an appointment for any of the above services, call (210) 658-7065 at least 24 hours in advance. You Must Make an Appointment!

Bexar Waste will NOT accept appliances that have not had the Freon removed.

Hazardous waste must be dropped off at the collection point, and will ONLY be accepted 21, 22, 28, &29 October. Such was includes insecticides, pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, chemicals, cleaning and bleach products, swimming pool cleaners and chemicals, enamel and latex paints in cans and aerosol dispensers, varnish and stains, paint thinners and removers, and acetone. Empty propane tanks up to 7 gallons will be accepted only if the valve is entirely removed. Mercury will NOT be accepted.

SCHERTZ ANIMAL SHELTER

I recently had a very positive encounter with the Schertz Animal Shelter (Humane Society). A lost and very tired small white terrier mix dog found its way to my yard. He had a collar but no tags and was covered with fleas. I called the shelter and they sent out a very caring gentleman who petted and reassured the little guy and loaded him into the truck. Below is information from their website that might be helpful to our residents if they see stray animals running around, want to adopt an orphan, or simply would like to donate time or goodies to the shelter.

Who We Are
Schertz Animal Shelter is a city based adoption facility. We have 18 dog adoption kennels, 22 dog holding kennels, and 4 dog quarantine kennels. We also have 9 cat adoption kennels, 11 cat holding kennels, and 2 cat quarantine kennels. We have wonderful relationships with several Rescue Groups and Organizations in our area that strongly support providing forever homes for our pets. We have 5 full time employees, and are open 7 days a week. We gladly accept donations and volunteers.
Adopting a Friend
Our adoption rates are $55 for dogs and cats, $10 for rabbits and guinea pigs. The adoption price covers: 5 way vaccinations, Rabies vaccinations, Deworming, Bordetella vaccination, Heartworm test, Veterinary Examination, Microchip, Tag and Adoption Kit.
Volunteering and Donations
We gladly except Donations and Volunteers. All volunteers must be over 16 years of age. We have volunteer orientation the fourth Sunday of every month at 10:30AM.
