One of the responsibilities of the Schertz Inspection Department is to enforce the City Code concerning minor health violations. These hazards
include OVERGROWN LOTS OR LOT PARCELS, JUNKED VEHICLES, TRASH AND OTHER DEBRIS.

A NUISANCE is defined by the City Code as any condition or use of a lot, parcel, or premises which is in an unsanitary condition or injurious to public health, is detrimental to the property of others, or causes diminution in the value of other property in the neighborhood where the premises is located. It is unlawful for any person to permit or allow the keeping or the depositing on, or the scattering over the premises any offollowing:

Discarded lumber, junk, trash, debris, garage or animal, vegetable, or mineral matter and/or composition of residue thereof;
Abandoned, discarded or unused objects or equipment such as furniture,stoves,refrigerators, freezers, or other appliances and including empty and discarded cans and containers.
Excessive growth or weeds or other vegetation that exceeds eight (8)inches in height or is allowed to remain upon a premises so as to become a breeding places for flies or insects or become offensive so as to emit foulor noxious odors.
The accumulation of stagnant water permitted to remain thereon.
Overhanging or protrusions of trees, brush and shrubs must be kept at a minimum clearance of fifteen (15) feet from street surfaces and easements for the entire width. A minimum clearance of eight (8) feet is required
above sidewalks.
In other areas of the city, that portion of any lot or parcel of land within fifty (50) feet of any open street or road or which is within
seventy-five (75) of any building shall be kept completely free and clear of excessive growth of weeds and vegetation, abandoned and discards equipment and rubbish, and stagnant water.

JUNK VEHICLES: A junk vehicle is defined by the City Code to be a motor vehicle which is inoperative and does not have a lawfully affixed
unexpired license or motor vehicle safety inspection certificate and that is either wrecked, or dismantled, or discarded or that remains inoperable for a continuous period or more than forty-five (45) days.
