Fall Sale, and
the increase to $3/household covered all but
$11.00 of the cost of supplies and advertising.
Getting balloons and other supplies to each
participant, arranging for advertising in the San
Antonio Express News and the Herald, and
coordinating with the Arc of Texas to later pickup unsold items took a lot of energy and time!!

Coyote Watch!!
This is from one of our
neighbors who lives on the Golf Course :
On Sunday, September 30th, my husband took
our dog, a 10 lb. Terrier, out for his final
bathroom call before bedtime, as he had always
done for 14 years. It was 10:30 P.M., the porch
and motion detector lights were on. My husband
sat on the porch to wait for him. In just a few
seconds he heard the dog yelp 3 times and ran
off the porch to see what the matter was. The
lights blinded his vision since the dog had
ventured behind a bush where it was dark. He
ran in to get a flashlight to look beyond the lights
but could not see the dog. This all happened
within less than a minute. We both searched the
whole golf course behind our house and
between the houses for over two hours. We
immediately suspected a coyote, but had never
heard of or seen any in the area of our home.
We had never imagined that one would
approach a lighted area, especially with one of
us in plain sight. This is a fatal error on our part.
The next day we searched the golf course
thoroughly, including the dense areas below the
lake and by the new subdivision on 1103 but
found nothing. We called Animal Control and
they gave us the number for the Texas Parks
and Wildlife Office. We spoke with Gary
McEwen (1-979-845-6201) and he said that the
area contact person for this area was S. L.
Bennett (830-660-0146) and that he would
contact him and get back with us. The next day,
he called us and asked if they could come out
and make a report. They arrived 1 hour later
with some traps and towing a 4 wheel ATV. Mr.
Bennett said that he was very familiar with the
area and that he had trapped coyotes on a
ranch adjoining our subdivision on the north side
and he would ask this rancher if he could place
traps there again. He will also contact two
ranches on Schwab Road. He later called and
informed us that he was able to put 5 traps out
on the Schwab Road ranches and that one of
these ranchers had recently had his dog killed
the same way. Mr. Bennett instructed us to call
him for results in a few days.
On October 10th we called Mr. Bennet to follow
up and he informed us that he had unbelievable
results. He had set 5 traps and had trapped 3
coyotes. He said he had hoped to trap at least
one.
This validates that we have a problem that will
only increase as the building in our area
progresses. These animals have been pushed
out of their habitat. They are going to be more
aggressive in their struggle to find food and will
be on the prowl. It is too late for our pet of 18
years, but it may save others. So, take great
care when taking your pets outside. It would be
wise to have them on a leash even in your own
yard. Since this all happened to us, we have
been told that people that live on the golf course
have seen and heard the coyotes howl at night.
We would like to praise the rapid response of
the Texas Parks and Wild Life. They take their
jobs seriously and will work with us to at least
reduce the amount of coyotes. They said that
the coyote is not necessarily territorial but
instead will move on to where food is available.
Thus, they move to where the traps are located.
P.S.: I read this article last night on coyotes and
was really surprised that they can easily leap an
8 foot fence or wall. They have been spotted
climbing over a 14 foot cyclone fence. Several of
my friends have said, "Oh, that's why we have a 6
ft fence." It might be worth adding this and the

NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS
Status of Basketball Court
Completion of the Basketball court in the park on
Cherrytree has been delayed because the posts
for the backboard failed to arrive. Those posts
have now arrived, and the backboards will be
installed soon. Eventually the surface will be
painted and striped. Please be patient, as
everything is being done as a result of the
generosity of others.


FREE LINE DANCE CLASSES
Classes are at the Old Northcliffe Fire Station on Thursday mornings from 9-12 p.m. through
2007. Basic beginners?’ classes are held on
Tuesday mornings at 9:00 a.m. in Schertz at the
Community Center on Schertz Pkwy. These
classes are sponsored by the Methodist Health
Care System for 55 plus seniors. Please call

information.


FALL CLEAN-UP SUCCESS!
Homes in our community need to give a BIG
?“Thank-You?” to the City of Schertz for their work
during the annual Fall Clean-up. Not too many
cities go to that expense to provide households
with all the free services made available to us.
Here are a couple of City workers that go about
their job with a pleasant and happy demeanor:


GO SEE THE BALLOONS!
If you are looking for a wonderful experience,
make plans to attend the Albuquerque, New
Mexico annual Balloon Fiesta next year. It is
held the first two weeks of October, every year,
and standing in the middle of those giant
balloons preparing to lift off is an amazing
experience. It is a GREAT family adventure.
Caution: Call about 6 months ahead for hotel
reservations!


Guadalupe County Prepares for
Constitutional elections
Don?’t forget the State Constitutional Amendment
Election scheduled for November 6th! Our
residents residing in Guadalupe County will be
able to vote at the old Northcliffe Fire Station on
Morning Drive. Residents of Comal County
residing in Northcliffe and the Fairways will be
able to vote at the Comal Elementary School,
67200 FM 482.

CITY OF SCHERTZ
TOILET REBATE PROGRAM
The City of Schertz is proud to participate in a
wide-range of water conservation efforts to
ensure that we continue to have high quality
sustainable water resources for generations to
come. The City Manager and City Council have
authorized Public Works and the Inspection
Department to establish a Toilet Rebate
Program. The intent of the program is to
encourage conservation of water by replacing
toilets that exceed 1.6-gallon capacity.
Anyone who installs/replaces a toilet that does
not exceed 1.6 gallon capacity is eligible for a
$50 rebate from the City of Schertz.

Christmas Decorating Contest

The Northcliffe HOA will again be sponsoring a
Christmas Decoration Contest for this holiday
season. We will be awarding prizes to the first
three places! We had fantastic decorations last
year, but would love to surpass it. Several of
our homes were considered as finalists in the
Schertz city-wide contest as well.


HOA Board Members
The Northcliffe Homeowners?’ Association is
looking for homeowners who care about their
community and would like to serve on our
Board. This would entail attending only one
meeting a month. Please contact a Board
Member if you are interested in becoming a
member of the HOA Board.


Newsletter to be published Quarterly
Starting January 2008, the Northcliffe Newsletter
will be published quarterly rather than monthly.
Publication will be in March, June, September
and December.



Flu Immunization Clinics!
The Schertz EMS Department
will be holding its annual flu shot
clinics for the public at the
Schertz EMS Building located
at 1400 Schertz Pkwy.
The clinics are open
to everyone over the age of
4 years of age. The cost for
the Flu shots is $20 per shot
and (EMS will accept
Medicare Part B) . The clinics
will be held:
