Dear Gwen:
Thank you for your letter regarding airport noise. I appreciate your taking time to contact me on this important issue.
I would like you to know that I will not support moving any measurable noise from one neighborhood to another, nor will the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which must approve any changes in flight paths. The proposed 15?° turn to the east on Runway 3 takeoffs to the north is designed only to reduce airplane noise over residential areas and not to increase the noise over any neighborhood. This turn will direct the takeoff' noise over the Capitol Cement plant, and the proposed noise contours extend approximately only to tile Northern Hills golf course. Additionally, I have requested that the airport consider establishing a new departure profile, based upon appropriate testing, directing pilots to take off and climb higher, faster to diminish the noise over residential areas.
Once again, the airport plans prepared by the City's consultant must be approved by the FAA before the control tower can instruct the pilots to change the direction of any flight paths. City Council is expected to submit the plan to the FAA sometime later this year. However, before this happens, there will be a public hearing later this summer that will be advertised in the newspaper, and I encourage you to attend if possible.
Again, thank you for your letter about this very important community-wide issue. I am grateful for your input and comments. If ever I can be of assistance to you, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Sincerely yours,
Tim Bannwolf
