On September 16, 2001 members of Troop 123 traveled to Shelbyville, KY to attend the Painted Stone Festival.
Squire Boone was instrumental in founding many of the settlements in the area and had a practice of painting rocks to mark boundaries. The festival takes its name from that practice.
At the festival, Scouts had the opportunity to learn about the Pioneer way of life. Soapmaking, dyeing with natural dies, spinning, and linen making were but a few of the things we learned about.
There were conjurers (what we call a magician); saber and rapier demonstrations; and a re-enactment of the Painted Stone Massacre, one of many Indain raids that occurred in the late 1700's.
