The sign is in place for the newly-named Larraine T. Marshall Youth Fishing Clinic at Chollas Lake.
Larraine Marshall had asked if there could be some type of youth program after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays because she had two grandchildren that wanted to come to the lake for something fun to do. Recreation Tech Bill Rodger put together some fishing gear and used petty cash to buy red worms each week. The first year they had 1,000 participants the program. After a couple of years, the program moved to Saturdays from 9am to 3pm. Today it runs every Saturday and Sunday, and on weekdays during the summer vacation. In 2015, they had approximately 10,000 kids participate in this program.
It was Larraine Marshall’s original request that resulted in the Lend-A-Rod program.
Thank you Larraine!
