We have several projects we've been working on this year that we'd like to share with you! 1. Oak Park Banners You may have noticed more banners up around the neighborhood. We applied for city funding and received a grant to more than double our existing banner program! Look up and you'll be reminded to "Buy Local First" as we work to support our community's businesses. In the coming months, you'll see the annual SD Fair banners go up. This year's theme is "How Sweet It Is." 2. Stop Sign Safety Project You'll be seeing a few of these signs around as we finally got approval to create four 4-way stops throughout the neighborhood. Our hope is that these intersections make it safer to walk, bike, and drive through our residential streets. 3. More Funding We completed a funding application at the beginning of February for up to $10,000 on a project that helps promote our local businesses. More information to come... 4. Adopt-A-Highway We have begun the process for adopting a section of the 94 Freeway near the Euclid Ave. exit. This commitment would require a quarterly clean up and would target the off-ramp at Euclid that often is blighted with unsightly amounts of trash. 5. Bike Racks We are working directly with business owners in the neighborhood to apply for free installation of city bike racks in front of their stores. Are there any stores you frequent in the neighborhood that you'd like to see have bike racks? 6. Increased Bus Frequency Because of the heavy ridership in our neighborhood, MTS has increased the frequency of some of our bus routes. With that in mind, we are working with them to put in trash receptacles at every stop, particularly along 54th Street, and emptying them on a more frequent basis. 7. New Events We are building out our annual calendar so that we have fun, family-friendly, and community-building events all year long. We are adding community BBQs and Summer Movies in the Park to our regular lineup. |
