Oak Park Estates #5

A MESSAGE FOR OUR NEIGHBORS

May 22, 2002

We moved to Treeline Circle in 1979. This was a quiet, lovely neighborhood. Beautiful trees, well- manicured lawns, children, squirrels and birds of every kind filled the area with life. Policemen surveyed the traffic and street sweeping equipment cleaned weekly. There were no cars parked on the streets or neighbors washing cars out front. You saw
neighbors coming and going, working in their yards, talking to each other or out for an evening walk.

There was no high grass, paper, trash, loud music
or loose dogs. There were no empty bottles, uncut lawns, and speeding cars in the neighborhood. This was a closed community of caring, sharing families. What has happened in the past twenty years? Why are the fences falling, the yards uncut, old junked cars left standing and dogs running wild? Do you know who lives next door? Do you even care? Do you remember what attracted you to this area? Can you still see the values that attracted you to this neighborhood? Why not?

What can we do individually and collectively to keep those values in the neighborhood. Where do we see
this neighborhood in the next twenty years? Will it just be another slum area or will we work together to retain its natural beauty? I will work with you as my neighbor and we can work together as a concerned neighborhood to keep Oak Park Estates beautiful. What will you do? Dwala Brown
