City of Lewisville Code Enforcements

Posted in: Orchard Valley Estates

Has any resident of this subdivision received a letter from the Code Enforcement Officer about "Place Numbers" on your residence?  More specifically - not having your address noted on the back of your residence?  How long has this neighborhood been in place and how long has this ordinance been in place?   They are attempting t fine me the cost to fix plus $250.  Seriously?   Here's the letter I wrote to the City:

Mr. Davis,

As a resident of Lewisville for the past 5 years, I have a
few questions I would like addressed by yourself or a Code Enforcement
Officer.  As mentioned, we have been dwellers of our residence for
numerous years.  A few weeks ago I received a notice of non-compliance for
not clearing out an easement area that is not subject to our property ownership
yet I did rectify the situation.  I must admit I do not know the
legalities of easements or ownership of the same.  However, I received a
letter dated 10/25/12 from the same Code Officer that now states that I am in
violation of certain City Codes for the lack of proper “Place Numbers” on my
residence.  Seeing how this home has been a standing structure since 1993 or
thereabouts and seeing how I have been the property owner for the past 5 years,
I’m attempting to determine when this newly created ordinance was put in
place.   My reason for confusion is that the property has been a
standing structure for close to 20 years and at this moment I am given 3 days
to correct a situation that was unknown to me or face a penalty of cost to
correct plus $250.00.  Is the City is such dire circumstance that this is
how you intend to fund a government deficit?  Are there other ordinances
that are not known to residents that are trying to be enforced for purposes of
the same?

I am in need of a copy of the direct City Ordinance that
dictates the exact location, size, color and shape of numbers that need to be
placed on a residence in the back alley.  I say that because the letter I
received indicates I must reflect the address and not just the number of the
household to which my residence is located.  Does that mean I need to
acquire letters and numbers acceptable to you or your code officer that state
my full address?  Does that include the zip code?  Please provide a
legal definition for said identification.

I would also welcome a one-on-one visit with yourself or
your code officer to identify any other unknown ordinances that may exist for
my property or those of my neighbors.  I intend on bringing all into the
conversation to ensure our exact knowledge of the standing rules, regulations
and requirements or those that have recently been implemented.

I know that my neighborhood is not part of a HOA – but I
feel I must attempt to inform those in this area of these recent changes and
attempts to enforce the same for unknown reasons.

My sincerest regards,
