Greetings and salutations to all of our friends and neighbors out there. We don?’t have the luxury of time as we prepare this issue of the newsletter, but a lot of exciting things are upon us, so this month?’s letter will be brief.
Now right to the important stuff!


ONA OFFICERS ELECTIONS
A correction to the January Newsletter. The Bylaws of the Association had previously been amended to move the elections to March of each year. At the March 13th meeting we will hold the annual elections. We have two vacant offices and two neighbors that will run. Peter Brown for Vice-President & Julie Wells for Secretary.
Nominations will also be taken from the floor. So if you believe in the power of community, in being a good neighbor and that actions speak louder than words. Take action, pay your membership dues and come out to vote. You must be a current member to run for office or vote. It takes 20% of the members to be present to have a quorum for a vote or any other business.

Remember, you don't have to move to live in a better neighborhood, Just get involved!


THE BIG EVENT

Saturday April 5, 2008 is the day set aside for the OU students to come and assist in the neighborhood. We have planned for them to help with the sprucing up of the Gateways.
Also if there are still tree limbs that need to be moved, they can help our neighbors. Let us know if you need assistance. We will also need neighbors to help the students. More information will be given on this at the March meeting.

Join the Association!

We, the staff, view the needs of our area, go out and bring informational speakers so you can get your answers firsthand. Membership gives you the opportunity to voice and vote on decisions affecting your neighborhood. Anyone living in this area can become a member, renters or owners. It?’s a great time to join! Membership dues are only $12 per household, annually. That?’s right, not monthly, but ANNUALLY!

WHY ORGANIZE
Starting or joining a neighborhood group offers a variety of benefits only Neighborhood Associations can provide, including:

?• A way to control the destiny of your neighborhood

?• Personal growth

We still need volunteers. Your help will contribute to a wonderful neighborhood. If you don?’t have time to give, please at least join the association.

Home Buyer Assistance!

Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS) and Community Action Agency (CAA) are making available TO THOSE WHO QUALIFY, down payment and closing cost assistance of $3,500 for previous homeowners and $6,000 to first time homeowners. The funds are available in THE OAKCLIFF AREA, which is located at Southeast 44th Street to Southeast 59th Street, Bryant Avenue to Sunnylane Road. The Oklahoma City Fire Department's
Smoke Alarm Program
The Oklahoma City Fire Department is offering free smoke alarms and batteries to Oklahoma City residents. Residents who wish to receive a free smoke alarm need to contact their local fire station.
If you need assistance with installation, please let your local fire station know. They will send personnel to help you!



The Oklahoma City Action Center at 297-2535 routes complaints and questions to other City departments and divisions, including Police, Code Enforcement and Zoning Enforcement. Among the code violations which can be reported to the Action Center are illegally parked cars, abandoned and inoperable cars, dead trees and tall weeds.
