Update on Vitamin D Deficiency,

      Most people over 50 need 1 hour of sunlight wearing short sleeved shirt and shorts between 10 AM and 4 PM 3 times weekly. 90% of Vitamin D comes from the sun and 60% of the population has Vitamin D deficiency. Most people under 50 need about 30 minutes 3 times weekly. In the months between November to March-about 5 months-people are wearing long sleeves/pants and their skin is not being exposed to sunlight, so their Vitamin D level drops every month during that time. The book 'Vitamin D Cure also recommends eliminating salt, cheese and saturated fat from diet and decreasing/eliminating grains (cereal, pasta, rice, bread), and increasing intake of fruits and vegetables -eat 3 times as many fruits and vegetables as protein. Also magnesium is important for proper functioning of vitamin D, PTH, and calcitonin-three hormones that regulate bone metabolism and mineral stores. Magnesium is found in nuts, dried fruit, and green, leafy vegetables. This book instructs that this kind of diet is more acid based balanced and creates less stress on the body-stress causes inflammation and illness. Red potatoes and beans are low in acid, so are ok.
