Dear Homeowners/Renters:

According to the Real Estate Industry "Curb Appeal" is number one in keeping up home values.

A Few Things To Keep In Mind

Mow early and often: For the best possible lawn, mow early (in the morning, after dew has dried on grass) and often (once a week is best, every two weeks will do).

The way that you mow your lawn is one of the most important things to keep in mind. The mow height is important and should be maintained at 2.5 inches. Mowing too low will cause a weakening of the grass root system which causes weeds to grow there. This weakening allows weeds to grow much easier and can kill the grass.

Patterns Matter

Another element to consider is the direction that you cut in. Always try to change the pattern each time that you mow. Instead of going in the same direction each time, this will allow you to cut into the leaf surface of those dreaded weeds that are leaning in one way. In addition, doing this also helps to keep your soil from being compact. It improves the turf wear too.

Your Blades

Another thing to consider with lawn care is your mower blade. The blades need to be sharp. To have them sharpened; take the lawnmower in to the professionals at the beginning of the season to have the work done. By doing this every year it will help provide your lawn with a great growing pattern all year long.

Watering

Just as important in lawn care is the way that you water. When you water, water infrequently and be sure to water a long time so that it is deep and helps to develop deep roots.

If anyone has any questions or some good tips on lawn care or landscaping ideas, let's post them here.

On Westhope Street, where the lawns are supposed to be cut and maintained as part of the Home Owners fee... we have noticed that there are new guys doing it.  Last week they were on our street for a few hours and did not even cut the backyard of our home.  The job doesn't seem to be as well done and many things that were supposed to be kept up have not (not just these guys but for a while)... like the shrubs being trimmed and like the mulching that is used in the front shrubbery beds.  I hope that the job will be done better in the future.

I have noticed this also.  My lawn looks really bad by the time they finally get around to cutting it.  And why are they cutting and leaving the clippings there on the lawn....it's very messy all of a sudden.

Arent they supposed to cut it at least once a week?  Now that winter is coming, I'm sure they won't need to, but this summer has been a big disappointment with my lawn care.

The HOA noticed that the previous landscapers were not maintaining McIntyre the way that they should.  Unfortunately, for the month of August, when the previous landscapers knew they were being replaced, it got a little worse.  Now the new landscapers are trying to get around to everything, the common areas, lawns and gulleys etc.   Give them a little time.

If any Homeowner/Renter is still having a problem, please contact one of the Board Members by email and give your address and we will address the problem.
