Hello all,
Thanks to everyone who attended last night's Getting Arizonans Involved in Neighborhoods (GAIN) Night block party. It was a huge success with about 60+ adults and about 20 youngsters! We had visits from the Congressman Harry Mitchell (I love the fact that our neighborhood is named for his family), the Mayor, Police Chief and his assistant, several Police Officers, including someone from the traffic bureau who was gathering feedback about the traffic calmimg pilot program, and the Tempe Fire Department!
Many thanks go out to the regulars who make this event successful AND possible: As always, Ruth circulated our Block Party petition, helped me provide most of the paper products and was there until the last minutes of clean-up, Ron got the barricades from the City and got them set up, Terri helped set up and staff the registration table and worked all night, Diann came through with tables and chairs and provided restroom facilities, Sarah, Robert and Caroline are always the first to arrive and the last to leave and help do whatever is needed to make the party a success.
During this event, special thanks go to Penny for rounding up some new attendees and providing extra help with set-up and clean-up, Doug and Sharon for bringing extra chairs and tables, Mark provided sidewalk chalk and Marcia was there from beginning to end and attended the organizing meeting in September. Thank you to anyone I may have missed who had a hand in making it a great event. It was so easy that I agree with everyone who suggested that we should DO IT MORE OFTEN!
Thank you to everyone who came and had a good time. This is what neighborhoods should be like! We've got a great thing going!
Attached is a photo of some serving pieces and a small cooler that were left at the party. Please let me know if they belong to you.
Have a great week.
Alice
I would also like to give an extra thanks to both Penny Wilson and Stephanie Machen for handing out flyers for the event.
